We believe that possibly half of all brain tumor patients could have their tumors successfully removed for good if they are detected early, before physical symptoms become apparent. And, the only way to detect a tumor early is through the use of MRI brain scans. By providing the means to find and subsequently treat brain tumors early in their development, thousands of lives may be saved.

We have grown accustomed to routinely checking for breast, colon, prostate and other cancers, why not brain tumors?

Road to Early Detection focuses on outreach to communities, particularly for those under-served or who have no mode of transportation, in the five boroughs of New York. Our Mobile MRI Unit will be set up in places where people work, study and live in order to make brain scans, and thereby early detection, accessible and cost free. A successful campaign in New York City will be used to launch a nationwide effort for affordable scans.

What is a brain scan and how can it help in the battle against brain tumors?

A brain scan is a T2 weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan of the brain, commonly known as an MRI.

MRI'S ARE:

  • Completely safe
  • Painless
  • Non-invasive
  • Emit no radiation
  • Focused only on the brain
  • Take ten minutes or less

MRI's are used for preventative screening and detection of brain tumors even when no symptoms are present.
